More about Adult Travel-June 11-14, 2018 Chestertown/KentCounty

Join Sultana Education Foundation this spring for an extended paddling exploration of Kent County, with a focus on the geological and human factors that have shaped the upper Eastern Shore over the past four centuries.  Striking out each day from our base camp at the historic White Swan Tavern in Chestertown, Maryland, participants will spend four days on the hidden creeks and marshes of the Chester and Sassafras Rivers, as well as the Chesapeake Bay proper.  In addition to exploring the water, paddlers will take advantage of the educational amenities at Sultana’s Holt Education Center which include a one-of-a-kind digital projection system, a 30’ x 30’ map of the Chesapeake Bay, and scores of historic artifacts from the schooner Sultana, John Smith’s 1608 expedition, and Native Americans of the region.  Sultana staff members will keep a particular focus on the stories of John Smith and the Native Americans tribes he encountered while the group paddles along pristine sections of the John Smith Historic Trail.  Most days will include a half-day of flat-water paddling followed by time to explore the local culture and relax.  On the final night of this experience, participants will   enjoy a crab feast on the banks of the Chester River.

This trip is limited to 10 paddlers, and with the exception of one dinner, trip fees include all meals, lodging, paddling gear, and transportation to and from each day’s paddling site.
